FROM THE FIELDS - ISSUE #50
When you think tropical, green is not typically the first colour that comes to mind but when we say ‘health’, we tend to think first of all things green. We’ve come up with an easy smoothie recipe just for you that will help keep you alkaline throughout the day and leave others feeling the other type of green…envy.
UNDER THE SEA so to speak, grows a superfood ingredient called Spirulina. Most people already know about….and more are reluctant to try it as it is a micro-algae but with this recipe you’ll never taste it. It was long used by the Aztecs as a food source for it’s potent nutrient content, which includes amino acids, antioxidants, chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and protein- yes protein! This plant-based protein contains 50-70% bioavailable protein, meaning easy to digest and absorb- so per 100 gram contains about 57% protein. When purchasing spirulina, make sure to focus on the quality- only organic varieties that are processed at low heat. This way the nutrient content stays high, the effort levels minimal, and the toxins floating around in the water stay out.
GREEN MYLK is our new favourite base for smoothies. Protect your liver, keep things alkaline, boost your immune system, and increase your antioxidant levels with this refreshing smoothie recipe!
